Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic ÂŁ11m in prize money.
She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a extended hiatus following the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
