Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with results this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
