The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.
The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
