The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
