The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
